How many years have you been teaching?

I taught 10 years at the post-secondary level with two years in sports medicine.  I began teaching at the career and technical center two years ago.

What let you to teaching in this field?

The practical experiences, as well as, the relationships formed with athletes, parents, medical professions, and others led me to teach in this field.

What has been your biggest success in the classroom?

My biggest success in the classroom was having the opportunity to build a program in the Mississippi Delta especially when there are only two high school programs in Mississippi.  Also,  seeing the students embrace this new program and display what had been learned in real time always feels like a success.

What motivates you most as a CTE instructor?

The ability to provide students a variety of practical clinical experiences, as well as, real world field experiences motivates me.

What impact do you hope to have on your students?

It is my hope that because of this program, there will be an increase in student enrollment at post-secondary resulting in a noticeable profession.

What advice would you give new CTE instructor?

I would advise them to study the content, create detail lesson plans, have great organizational skills, and develop great long-lasting partnerships. Most importantly, be willing to accept feedback and know that it is ok not know everything.
