This month Mississippi ED Talk tackles a hot topic in the Mississippi education world: school district consolidation. In recent years, the Mississippi legislature has been very active in requiring districts to consolidate. Legislators cite many reasons for encouraging consolidation, from cutting costs to improving student outcomes. But when districts are required to combine forces through consolidation, it can create a lot of uncertainty and confusion.
In order to explore this issue in greater depth, this episode takes a close look at the consolidation that has already occurred between the Starkville and Oktibbeha County School Districts. We talk to two administrators who helped oversee the consolidation to see what lessons can be learned from two districts that have already been through the process.
